The Social Network
I saw The Social Network tonight - it is amazing how far the internet has
evolved from email and simple search engines. As a tribute to techies from my
generation, here is a little RE computer history:
1994: first home computer, used mainly for word processing / 1997: instant messaging after school was the shit / 1998: first computer with a CD burner / 1999: used napster and audiogalaxy to acquire mp3s / 2000: researched music on allmusic.com / 2003: kazaa gave me mp3s, audacity recorded a few hip-hop and R&B songs / 2004: acquired mp3s and movies via DC++, ip-relay made prank calls fun again / 2005: facebook blew up, torrents were discovered / 2006: LOTS of mp3s downloaded in Vegas, the process of editing all mp3 ID3 tags began, YouTube and Wikipedia were commonplace / 2007: "meta" websites discovered (google calendar, google reader, metacritic), home theatre PC built / 2008: delicious discovered / 2010: bandcamp blew my mind
